I can’t remember the last time I had my natural hair, or rather the longest time I have embraced my natural hair! I invest my money on weaves and braids just so that I can look good! I put up with long and painful procedures at the salon just so that I can look good! The one thing that I have come to realise about looking good is that you first have to suffer the consequences of looking good before you actually get the results. It’s just like how life works; you cannot be successful unless you work for that success. I have come to a point in my life that how my hair looks defines my confidence! When I’m in my natural hair, I find myself looking for hideouts because I don’t want people to ask me about the volcano that’s erupting on my head! On the other hand, when I’m braided or weaved up I walk with pride because my shining glory is up to standard! I believe the media is all to blame for this misconception about good hair! Weaves have become synonymous with beauty and confidence! Looking at our South African celebrities, only one lady stands out for me who has not only reversed the cycle of weaving, but has remained beautiful and true to herself! Zizo Beda is such an inspiration to the non-plastic generation!
